For ME it is my ultimate dream to participate and be crowned the World Series Champion.
The main event is about passion. It's about endurance. It's about concentration, commitment, focus, manipulation, competition, money, attrition and survival. What's more, it's what poker players big and small dream about from June to July every year. "I doubt there's anything closer to the American dream, it's sure MY dream." This dream is shared by some 9,000 others. Is the beginning of a narrative that will end with one of those dreams coming true. If it were any event but the World Series of Poker, it probably couldn't be yours." It takes a lot of skill, experience, and luck to win a World Series of Poker bracelet. Poker hall of fame legend Mike Sexton looks forward to the WSOP every year. He told me: "I made my first trip to the WSOP in 1984. That trip changed my life forever. I knew right then that as long as I lived, I would never miss another WSOP".

This is the pinnacle that every poker player strives to achieve in their career. Every one of them wants the chance to wear one of the famous gold World Series of Poker bracelets given to the winner of any of the World Series events. Today as we approach the WSOP 2011, the main contenders for the highest amount of bracelets are tied with 13 bracelets each. The World Series of Poker is unequalled by any other poker event in the world today. No matter what events are added to the annual poker calendar, no matter how big the buy-in (even if it exceeds the $10,000 that was made so famous by the WSOP), nothing compares to sitting down in the tournament room with 100's of other poker players and hearing those words "Shuffle up and deal" as the dream starts to take place.
There are aspects of poker which make it different than any other card game. It is easy to apply strategy learned from playing backgammon, chess, spades, and other games to your poker approach. Following basic strategy and playing percentages at all times will give you the ability to make money from terrible players, but you will do so very slowly. It is hard to beat the rake using only mathematical evaluation. If you want to become successful, you have to understand and use psychology.
One of the things I'm picking up the more I play is that as important as the correct calls you make are, making the correct laydowns are just as important. Up until February 2011 in Los Angeles, I had been on a good run at making the right reads and laying down when I'm supposed to.
